Warrior in the World

Posted by Clarity on 22 Apr 2006 | Tagged as: Shambhala

In less than 2 weeks time (yikes!) I’ll be teaching my first Shambhala training level, a level III, titled Warrior in the World.
I’m currently going through the source material, making notes and just generally contemplating the material, trying to live with it as I go through my day. Panic arises here and there, doubts and confusion, but perhaps I’m getting more used to that by now. Or perhaps it’s not close enough yet! (more likely). As of this moment, I really have no idea how to teach this, or even what this is. A big soup, quite inspiring most of the time, but also confusing and challening.

for a taste, here are some of my notes from a chapter from Shambhala Sacred Path of the Warrior book, that I just finished.

  • The goal of warriorship is to express basic goodness in its most complete, fresh, and brillian form
  • this happens when you realize that you do not possess basic goodness, but that you are basic goodness
  • training of the warrior is to rest in basic goodness, simplicity - egolessness
  • to be a warrior is to learn to be genuine in every moment of your life
  • duty of the warrior is to cultivate warmth and compassion for others
  • discipline - how to become thoroughly gentle and genuine. go beyond selfishness. promote egolessness in oneself and others
  • warrior is always on the spot. The setting sun concept of rest does not apply (yikes!)
  • fearlessness - you are prepared to be awake in every situation, because you are not on the side of success or failure

Nice, no? Now, this was supposed to be the material for a talk on gentleness, which has the threefold logic of sensitivity as the ground, true perception as the path, and softness as the fruition. Hmm… It does not connect so far…

monks and nuns should always be horny

Posted by Clarity on 01 Apr 2006 | Tagged as: Shambhala

I have come across a wonderful interview with Ani Pema Chodron, where she talks about her experiences with the Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Some are really funny, like this one:

He told me that one of my main jobs would be to sort out people’s motivation. He said a lot of people are going to want to become monks and nuns because they can’t get it up—their romantic thing didn’t work out and they decide to take vows. He said that’s not good motivation, monastic life shouldn’t be an escape. That’s when he made the famous comment which I’ve repeated many times: “The monks and nuns should always be horny.” He said, “We want real energetic juicy monks and nuns but they should keep their vows impeccably.” He said that we needed Shambhalian monks and nuns. I didn’t think to ask him exactly what he meant. But I took it to mean: looking good and comporting ourselves well.

and this is the one she tells a lot:

PC: One thing I always remember….He would stop every so often when I was in a crowd of people-you know once a year, twice a year, but out of the blue, unexpectedly—and say, “Don’t be too religious.”

WF: Always the same message?

PC: Always the same message. “Don’t be too religious.” And of course I’d get paranoid, “I’m being too religious?” But it was just basically a message about how to proceed. Don’t be too religious. So I certainly always remember that.

As I can be pretty strict with myself and take myself way too seriously, this has always been an excellent advice.
I miss the Abbey, even though living there was the hardest thing I ever did.
Perhaps I’ll be able to visit it this summer, we’ll see how things go.

But anyway, take your time and read the whole interview, it is truly excellent.

leader of Shambhala group Ljubljana becomes one with StarTrek

Posted by Clarity on 01 Apr 2006 | Tagged as: Shambhala

Dear friends,

this is a special announcement regarding a very special event.
On this very auspicious day, the leader of Shambhala group Ljubljana, one known as Clarity, has finally, after a lifetime a secret training, achieved his most precious goal - he completely realized a state of StarTrekhood, and his body, mind and speech have become inseparable from the spirit of Star Trek and all their holy masters - captain James T. Kirk, captain Picard, captain Katherine Janeway and all the other bodhisattvas, dakas and dakinis who have served and are serving on board of the starship Enterprise.
This special event took place in the early hours of this morning, after an ardous whole night startrek ™ meditation, where Clarity has finally succeeding in watching all the episodes of StartTrek known to exist in this universe. A poweful beam of light descended on Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and everywhere were heard the powerful words of enlightenment: “Beam me up, Scotty!. At this very moment Clarity completely dissolved into light.
Many have speculated before on the connection between Shambhala and Federation, as their stated goal is uncanilly similar - to build an enlightened society.
This evening, at 18:00 Central European time, there will be a special celebration, where the alliance between Shambhala and Federation will be publicly announced. This event will take place aboard the starship Voyager, who has especially for this occasion jumped through a wormhole in space-time continuum and graced us with their presence.
All are invited to join us, and if you wish to do so, we ask you that at 17:50 you start a session of startrek ™ meditation, with the use of mantra: “OM STARTREK, HOW CAN I LIVE WITHOUT YOU HUM. At precisely 18:00 all will be beamed aboard Voyager.

But this is not all! Among other incredible things happening today, president of Shambhala International, Mr. Richard Reoch, has attained a state of “lightness”. You can read all about it here.

May all beings be free of suffering, and may they swiftly attain the state of StarTrekhood.
